Cornelius and the Gentiles: A Story of Preparation and Grace

June 10, 2026

Today's sermon delves into Acts 10 to explore a pivotal moment in early Christian history: the inclusion of Gentiles through Peter’s encounter with Cornelius.

The Preparation

Cornelius, described as a devout Roman centurion and a Gentile, represents everything that was unclean about the Gentile world. Yet, God prepares his heart before Peter even arrives to preach. This preparation is evident in Acts 10:35 where it states 'In every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.'

The Vision

God shows Peter a vision indicating that all foods and peoples should be considered clean, as mentioned in Acts 10:44. This vision challenges the cultural norms of the time and sets the stage for the inclusion of Gentiles into the early Christian community.

The Prayer

Cornelius' prayer is a key moment that highlights his sincerity and devotion to God, as noted in Acts 10:35. His prayers ascend before God as a memorial offering, indicating his genuine faith despite being outside of traditional Jewish practices.
